Greetings, and welcome to MD News Greater Kansas. When educators at The University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita decided it was time to update their medical school curriculum, they realized they needed to also update the way medical students were taught. As a result, they implemented the ACE curriculum, which stands for active, competency-based and excellence-driven, to provide the next generation of physicians with the types of skills and competencies needed in today's practices and healthcare settings. In our cover story, you can find out more about how the ACE curriculum is changing the way medical students learn. Charles R. Whitfill, MD, Grene Vision Group's only pediatric ophthalmologist, serves not only the Wichita area where the practice is headquartered, but also much of Kansas, with the exception of the northeastern part of the state. Learn how the "eyes of the future" are impacted by Dr. Whitfill's expertise. In our clinical feature about pediatrics, we examine cost disparities among di–erent methods of performing fecal microbiota transplantation in children with recurrent clostridium di•cile infection. Other articles in this issue highlight Wichita Children's Psychiatric Hospital, a much-needed facility opening in early 2019 that will treat children ages 6 to 18 who are battling conditions such as suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety, trauma and substance abuse.
