The Patels now reside in Dallas, where Dr. Patel prac - tices at Comprehensive Or thopaedics and Rehabilitation in Richardson, Texas. UKSM-WICHITA NAMES NEW INTERNAL MEDICINE CHAIR William J. Salyers Jr., MD, has been promoted to Chair of the Internal Medicine Depar tment at The Universit y of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. An alumnus who also completed his internal medi - cine residency with the medical school in Wichita, Dr. Salyers most recently ser ved as the gastroenterol- ogy division chief at the medical school and the Rober t J. Dole VA Medical Center. Before joining the medical school, he ser ved as assistant medical director of Harr y Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, an immediate care physician and a facult y member at Bar ton Communit y College. VIA CHRISTI HOSPITAL ST. JOSEPH CONTINUES RENOVATIONS Via Christi Hospital St. Joseph in Wichita is undergoing t wo ren- ovation projects, totaling $62 million, that are consolidating and expanding behavioral health ser vices at the hospital, conver ting all of its patient rooms to private rooms and giving a new look to the outside of the facilit y. The first phase of the $50 million Project Renewal renovation has reached several milestones in 2018, including the opening of a 12-bed medical psychiatric unit on the hospital 's seventh floor. The renovation also included moving and expanding the hospital 's senior behavioral health unit to a new 25-bed unit. Adolescent behavioral health ser vices was moved from another location in Wichita to a renovated nine-room space at the hos - pital. Another four rooms to provide behavioral health ser vices to children ages 4 to 11 will open this fall. The first phase also included the consolidation in August 2017 of Via Christi's outpa - tient behavioral health ser vices on the third floor of the Clif ton Medical Building located across the street from the hospital. The remaining phases of Project Renewal will include creating t wo 25-room adult behavioral health units, constructing an ap - proximately 5,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor activit y center and a ver tical expansion of the hospital 's nor th tower. KHA LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE GRADUATES 30 The Kansas Health A ssociation Leadership Institute graduated its 17th class of 30 students during the KHA annual conven - tion on Sept. 6 in Overland Park, Kansas. The students were nominated by the CEOs of their hospitals to be par t of the group. Students included those who've worked in health care for as little as one year to more than 20 years. While several are in management positions, the nominations reflect that CEOs recognized their potential to be future leaders and wanted to provide this professional development oppor tunit y, according to a KHA release. Courses included enhancing communications skills, examining ethics, recognizing and managing conflict, building teams, and learning about future healthcare challenges. PETERSON ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT Stormont Vail Health recently announced that Randy Peterson, President and Chief E xecutive Of ficer, has provided the board of directors with notice of his intent to retire by March 31, 2019. Peterson joined Stormont Vail in 2012, previously ser ving the Wichita communit y as senior vice president of hospital opera - tions at Via Christi Health System and CEO at Salina Regional Health. During his leadership at Stormont Vail, Peterson oversaw the organization's membership in the Mayo Clinic Care Net work and continues to advocate for Medicaid expansion in Kansas. In 2016, Peterson received the Charles S. Billings Award for lifetime achievement from the Kansas Hospital A ssociation. The Stormont Vail Board of Directors has selected Rober t Kenagy, MD, Stormont Vail Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Of ficer to succeed Peterson in April. Dr. Kenagy joined Stormont Vail in April 2016 and since then the medical group has grown to more than 500 providers across 29 clinic loca - tions. Prior to joining Stormont Vail Health, Dr. Kenagy ser ved as senior vice president of St. John's Health Net work in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and senior vice president physician ser vices and CEO of Via Christi Clinic in Wichita, Kansas.
