Central New York 05-820 PUBLISHER from the Thank you very much for reading the November-December edition of MD News. Once again, we examine the world- class health care available right here in Central New York. In this issue, our cover story features Upstate Medical University. Teaching hospitals have a lot to offer healthcare providers — from the intellectual stimulation associated with cutting edge technological advancements and research to the rewarding experience of educating future clini- cians — all of which ultimately translates to an environment conducive to optimal patient care. The art of medicine has proved to be ever evolving, with research findings and technological advancements leading to new ways of understanding, diagnosing and treating disease. Healthcare providers cannot afford to become complacent with continuing education, as advancements in technologies and treatments mean that current knowledge will become outdated. Clinicians at Upstate certainly seem to understand the need to be lifelong learners, and working in a teaching hospital has helped them keep up with the latest medical advancements. Our interior feature focuses on a new hire in the Women's Health area at Crouse Health. Hadley Narins, MD, urologist at Crouse, brings expertise to women's pelvic health that spans a wide range of treatments — from robotic sacrocolpopexy to physical therapy to medication — in a subspecialty that adds to the health system's reputation as a magnet for women's health issues and offers patients control over their own care. In more than one way, building the Female Urology and Pelvic Reconstruction Program at Crouse Health is a homecoming for Dr. Narins. Not only did she grow up in nearby Buffalo, but she also completed her residency at the State University of New York — and so did a number of the physicians at her new practice, Associated Medical Professionals Urology. Once again, I would like to thank all those who come together to create our magazine. Here at MD News, we are dedicated to delivering an engaging reader experience with local relevance.
