Long Island 05-848 PUBLISHER from the Greetings, and welcome to MD News Long Island. The cover feature this month highlights the revitalized organ transplant program at Northwell Health. While the organ transplant program has been around for more than a decade, the hospital continues to focus on improving and expanding the program, which not only includes adding more staff to the team, but also in how the hospital retrieves donated organs for transplant. Through the SkyHealth program, Northwell Health wants to be able to send a team via jet to retrieve an organ at a moment's notice. To help ra ise awa reness about orga n donation, Ernesto Molmenti, MD, PhD, MBA, Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery and Director of Adult and Pediatric Kidney Transplantation at Northwell Health, Lewis Teperman, MD, FACS, Vice Chair of Organ Transplant Surger y and Director of Organ Transplantation for Northwell Health, and Brian Lima, MD, Director of Heart Transplant Surgery at Northwell Health and Associate Professor of Surgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, are actively involved with the hospital's organ donation campaigns, which focus on the need for organs, the safety of live donation and the possibility of an "imperfect" donor being the right fit for a patient in need. This month's clinical section on gastroenterolog y addresses findings that patients with more than one food allergy may benefit from use of the immunoglobu- lin e-blocking drug omalizumab in concert with oral immunotherapy.
