professor of neurosurgery, neurobiology and
global health, Michael M. Haglund, MD, PhD,
FAANS, FCS, offers his Duke Spine Center
patients care grounded in advanced research.
Michael Haglund, MD
Dr. Haglund's study interests include surgical
treatments for cervical disc disease, epilepsy surgery and brain mapping for the
resection of tumors. As program director of the Duke Neurosurgery Training
Program, he's teaching the next generation of neurosurgeons.
"I want to offer my patients a private practice setting with the elite care that comes
from a Duke neurosurgery faculty member," Dr. Haglund says. "My priority is helping
patients, in both their physical and personal spheres."
Dr. Haglund is also actively involved in medical missions, delivering much-needed
surgical equipment and support to Uganda. His Ugandan East African Neurosurgery
Training Program has more than doubled surgical capabilities there.

These tasty skewers offer a healthy and quick entrée.
INGREDIENTS
2 red and yellow bell peppers, chunked
Four garlic chicken sausages cut into pieces
1 large red onion, cut into chunks
1 cup cherry tomatoes
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
DIRECTIONS
1. Soak four 8-inch skewers in water for 15 minutes.
Preheat the grill to medium high.
2. Toss bell pepper, sausage, onion and tomatoes in one
tablespoon of oil, seasoning with salt and pepper.
3. Alternatively thread the vegetable and sausage pieces
on the skewers. Grill until sausage browns.
