Help and Healing for Urinary Incontinence Urinary incontinence – involuntary leakage of urine from the bladder – is all too common in women, and it's a condition often caused or made worse by trauma, childbirth, aging or exercise levels. This pelvic floor disorder can be aggravated by triggers like coughing or laughing, yet many women are hesitant to seek medical help for the problem. "What women need to know is they don't have to suffer with w w w.huronregional.org urinary incontinence symptoms," says obstetrician and gynecologist Sara Castellanos, DO, from the Women's Wellness Center in Huron. "There are a number of effective treatments for both stress and urge incontinence, Sa ra Ca st and I encourage women to e ll a n o s, D O talk to their physicians about their options." Dr. Castellanos recently obtained specialist certification for InTone, a prescription medical device designed to help women strengthen pelvic floor muscles and restore urinary continence. This prescription exercise program has helped some women avoid medications or surgical intervention to correct the incontinence. "I'm pleased to bring this treatment option to my patients," Dr. Castellanos says. "Patients can do the exercises in the privacy of their homes, and the treatment may show results as soon as three months." Dr. Castellanos sees patients at the Women's Wellness Center located at 142 3rd St. SE, Suite 2 in Huron. For appointments, call (605) 554-1020. welloneconnection 3
