President's Message… Community Voices… The importance of women taking steps to improve their physical and mental health, such as eating a proper diet, exercising and receiving regular checkups and preventive screenings, cannot be understated. Here at CentraState Medical Center, we've specifically targeted women's health issues through a number of programs and centers, including: Dear Mr. Gribbin, • The Gloria Saker Women's Heart Program, developed and managed by women for the prevention and treatment of women's heart disease, which is the leading cause of death for women in the United States. The Women's Heart Program provides comprehensive cardiac services, cardiologists and cardiac nurses who specialize in women's heart disease, in-depth cardiac evaluations, individualized treatment plans and an accredited cardiac rehabilitation center. • CentraState's First Impressions Maternity Center, which helps women through every step in their pregnancy—from finding an ob/gyn to prenatal classes to delivery and postpartum care, all in a comfortable, yet state-of-the-art setting. For women experiencing a high-risk pregnancy, CentraState's Perinatology Program provides pre-pregnancy and perinatal consultations, joint management, and complete antenatal care. And for babies born with special needs, the Colette Cipriano Special Care Nursery is equipped and licensed to care for almost any complication newborns face. • The Breast Cancer Program at CentraState, which offers crucial preventive services, gives hope to women who have received a breast cancer diagnosis and provides compassionate treatment and recovery by board-certified physicians specializing in surgery, radiation oncology and medical oncology. • The Star and Barry Tobias Women's Health Center, which provides a multitude of exceptional, leading-edge services for women's health, such as digital mammography, bone densitometry, stereotactic needle biopsy, breast needle localization and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. It is often said that women are the decision-makers for health care in the household. Through all of these wonderful services for women, CentraState hopes to help those decision-makers and their families live healthier lives. Yours in Good Health, In February I entered the Emergency Department in excruciating stomach pain. Within 25 minutes, I was processed, examined by a doctor, given a CAT scan, diagnosed with kidney stones, administered pain management and arrangements were being made for my urologist, William Kohlberg, MD [board-certified urologist on staff at CentraState Medical Center] to perform surgery. The ED staff was absolutely magnificent. After further medical investigation, it was determined that my heart was experiencing episodes of erratic heartbeats and I would have to be admitted to the hospital. I was put in the PCU 5 East area. The care I was given there was outstanding. The nurses and entire staff were just extraordinary people who showed the true spirit of caring and medical knowledge. I would like to single out one particular nurse named Nicole Rizzo, RN. Nicole was exceptionally responsive to my pain needs, my medications, communicating with my doctors, Nicole Rizzo, RN dealing with my extremely nervous wife and just listening to a patient talk. Her sincere dedication and professionalism is a true credit to CentraState Medical Center. Sincerely, Stuart Schmelzer Manalapan John T.
