AT THE END OF THE DAY… TAKE A MOMENT FOR YOURSELF AS YOU WRAP UP A BUSY DAY AND ENJOY THESE POSITIVE THOUGHTS FROM A SACRED HEART COLLEAGUE. "AUTUMN IS A season followed immediately by looking forward to spring." When I was a kid, this was the way I felt about autumn. I didn't particularly like this season because it meant the end of my summer vacation, the end of long, warm nights filled with ice cream treats, the end of staying up late, and the end of beautiful bouquets of flowers blooming in our family garden. You can see I had a theme: Autumn brought "the end" to many things, and all I wanted was to have spring return as quickly as possible. However, as I have grown older (and hopefully wiser), I've come to appreciate all this beautiful time of year brings. The cool breeze, the changing colors of the leaves, and the smell of burning wood in fireplaces invigorate me. As I walk around my neighborhood, I laugh at squirrels as they scoop up precious nuts and race off to their nooks and crannies to hide their finds for the coming months. I happily sit on a bench in Carson Park and sip a steaming cup of coffee as golden leaves swirl around me. I look out over Half Moon Lake and watch the geese bobbing in the water. Soon they will seek warmer climates, but for now they seem perfectly content to bask in the fading sunshine. I recently saw a great quote about the four seasons: "Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting, and autumn a mosaic of them all." I try to appreciate each season for what it is, for what it represents, and for what it promises. In autumn we can find the essence of life: We live and we die, but in between we are meant to savor the color, the taste, and the feel of each day. Note to self: Enjoy every moment of the beautiful season of autumn! > For more "Inspirations at the End of the Day…," visit sacredhearteauclaire.org/inspirations-blog.
