First, after 18 months of hard work and an investment of more than $8 million, our new, state-ofthe-art Emergency Department is now open. Turn to page 4 to learn how the added space and renovations have enabled upgraded services and the introduction of new technologies for patients needing fast, quality care. Next, in another effort to bring the best in care to the communities we serve, we're working to introduce a new interventional cardiology program at Frankfort Regional this fall. Read the article on page 6 to discover how this type of cardiac care can save lives and improve outcomes for our patients. Thank you for reading! Sincerely, Chip Peal CEO, Frankfort Regional Meet Dr. Sloan Mark Sloan, MD, Medical Director of Emergency Services Every patient should know: I really enjoy medicine and having the privilege of helping sick people. I like problem-solving—figuring out what's going on in the early stages of the disease process. Working in emergency medicine is great because: You really can make a difference. Certain conditions are time sensitive, and it can be stressful at times, but knowing you've helped someone who could have died if they didn't get the care they needed in minutes or hours is really rewarding. Educational background: University of Kentucky Postgraduate training: Emergency Medicine at University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria I'm excited to join the team at Frankfort Regional Medical Center because: I'll be closer to my home in Lexington. I'm impressed with the hospital's commitment to care, its level of professionalism, and how efficient and knowledgeable the staff is. The hospital leaders have a great vision of what they want and how to get there. Hopefully, I'll be able to help out, be a part of that vision and add to it as time goes on.
