A MESSAGE TO OUR READERS
One of the main components of the
Affordable Care Act is the opportunity for
everyone to obtain health insurance that they
can afford. New York State has set up a health
insurance exchange so that you will be able
to purchase insurance in the event that your
company does not provide you with health
insurance. There will be many different types
of insurance that you can purchase. If you are
unable to afford insurance coverage, you may
be eligible for a subsidy, which will be provided by the government to make it possible for you
to purchase insurance.
The health exchange in New York started on October 1. The state has a website
(www.nystateofhealth.ny.gov) that will answer your questions about the health exchange, tell
you how you can obtain insurance through the exchange and confirm whether you are eligible
for subsidized health insurance under the exchange.
We encourage you to visit this website and obtain health insurance if you do not already have
it. By obtaining insurance, you can ensure that you and your family will be able to afford health
care when you need it.
