Don't do it! Instead: mind your manners—but be firm. If you're not up for the task at hand—be it having more dessert or getting drafted for a game of touch football—politely decline and offer to participate in other ways, such as cleaning up after dinner or going to the store. If someone persists, thank him or her again but say something along of the lines of "I already gave you my answer." Going home for the holidays is an annual ritual for many—but what about the stress that builds on the drive or flight there? Go Home Again plan some alone time. A house full of relatives can be exciting for many, but intimidating for others. If you need to get away, consider hitting the gym, picking up lastminute purchases or scheduling a massage to create a little breathing room away from the family. tap into your inner strength. Taking a few minutes to reflect when you rise or before going to bed can help you keep a positive frame of mind on even the most stressful days. turn the conversation around. Find yourself faced with the same awkward question again? Use the inquiry to ask a question instead. If someone asks you how your job search is going, ask the questioner about his or her own career, and before you know it, you'll be listening—or pretending to listen—and out of the crosshairs.
