in Our Hands Dear Neighbors, For 124 years, Sacred Heart Hospital has sustained a unique legacy of healthcare excellence in the Chippewa Valley. On October 7, 1889, the first Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis arrived in Eau Claire to found Sacred Heart Hospital. The Sisters' vision of providing healthcare to those who had little but needed much made a deep and immediate impact in the community. Generations later, every colleague at Sacred Heart carries upon his or her shoulders the sacred duty of keeping the legacy of the Hospital Sisters strong and vibrant. We do so ever mindful that our goal is the Sisters' goal: to faithfully serve the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our patients and their families. We are proud to carry on the Sisters' mission of caring for all regardless of race, creed, or ability to pay. We do so in part through our Community Benefit services, which include unpaid care to beneficiaries of public programs such as Medicare and Medicaid; Community Care to those unable to pay; community education and services; and professional education for our clinical staff. When patients come to Sacred Heart, they put their trust in a team of bright and compassionate caregivers. We are grateful that our patients and their families experience first-hand our mission of providing dedicated, inspired care in a warm, supportive environment. Sacred Heart is your community hospital. We are here to serve you and your loved ones—to provide hope and healing to all those who come through our doors. Sincerely, One of Sacred Heart Hospital's primary goals is to be a source of health and wellness services and education for Eau Claire and Chippewa counties. To accomplish this mission as an effective healing ministry, we vigorously seek out ways to better serve our patients and neighbors through charitable care and local health services. Of Sacred Heart's overall charges, approximately 30 percent fall under Community Care. Here is a closer look at our regional financial impact in 2012 and 2013.
