Meet Our New Patient
CARE CONDUCTOR
Your medical care is like an orchestra—it involves many players
guided by one conductor. This spring, Maestro Care, Duke Raleigh
Hospital's new electronic medical records (EMR) system, will take
up the baton.
Produced by Wisconsin-based Epic Systems Corporation, Maestro Care
will debut at Duke Raleigh on March 1, 2014, during the fifth wave of Duke
University Health System's implementation of EMR. The software will
allow our providers to view patients' medical records instantly through a
single portal, eliminating delays to search for paper charts and increasing
the amount of time spent on direct patient care. Patients will have their
own gateway to Maestro Care through Duke MyChart, an online tool
for requesting prescription refills, scheduling appointments and viewing
laboratory test results (see more information about MyChart on page 7).
Chuck Hodges, MD
Maestro Care will also be a boon for patient safety and the delivery of
evidence-based care.
"If a pneumonia patient is admitted to the hospital, for example, and he or she hasn't received a
required pneumonia vaccination by Day 2, a treatment protocol programmed into the system
will remind the physician to deliver the vaccination or ask him or her to document why he or she
didn't," says Chuck Hodges, MD, FACP, chief quality and medical information officer at Duke Raleigh.
"Maestro Care will help us deliver the most appropriate, scientifically valid treatment to every patient."
