impact 2 www.SupportBaptistHealth.org WINTER 2014 Dear Friends of Baptist Health: As we begin a new year, it's important to reflect on our blessings from this past year. At Baptist Health Louisville and La Grange, that blessing is YOU! I am always amazed by the generosity of the community; you continually step forward with your gifts to help Baptist Health provide the best care possible for our patients and their families. The collective impact of your remarkable generosity is immense. As you read the stories in this magazine, I hope you will be struck, like I am, by the breadth of philanthropic giving to our health ministry. Each and every day, we receive gifts from a diverse representation of people and organizations, supporting a wide array of patient care programs and services. We receive contributions from employees who wish to help others struggling with cancer and from community groups inspired by friends in need. We receive support from corporations and foundations that understand the importance of healthcare to the communities they serve. We are also honored to receive gifts from recent patients grateful for their care. In addition, many individuals who volunteer at Baptist Health donate gifts regularly, because they want to do even more to support our healing mission. Every gift, of any amount, is important, and together your contributions make a difference to every patient we serve. Once again, thank you! In this region, one in three women and one in four men will get cancer in their lifetimes. Many cancers are curable if diagnosed early and treated appropriately, but Kentucky has the second highest incidence rate and highest mortality rate in the nation. The incidence rate of cancer in Oldham, Henry and Trimble counties is even higher than Kentucky as a whole. In Trimble County, mortality due to cancer is higher than mortality due to heart disease, normally the leading cause of death. To better serve the families of those counties, Baptist Health La Grange, with help of the Baptist Health Foundation, plans to renovate and equip a state-of-the-art oncology infusion center housing six chemotherapy infusion areas, three exam rooms and additional support space. The total cost of renovating and equipping the center is $467,157. We will need the help of a generous community to greatly enhance the healthcare experience for cancer patients and their families in Oldham, Trimble and Henry counties. , To learn how you can join us in supporting this new center, visit www.SupportBaptistHealth.org or call Scott Childers at 502.896.7495. mission & vision The Baptist Health Foundation of Greater Louisville advances the mission of Baptist Health by facilitating philanthropic relationships with individuals, foundations, corporations and associates to secure and wisely steward contributions from each. In partnership with the administration and staff of Baptist Health, the Baptist Health Foundation, Greater Louisville will foster a network of people and organizations dedicated to advancing Baptist Health's mission to provide high-quality healthcare services. Those services are justifiable and needed to serve the public residing in Kentucky and southern Indiana, without regard to race, religion, national origin or the ability to pay.
