We're Working Hard Before You Arrive In the event of a heart attack, you want the fastest care possible. At Redmond Regional Medical Center, we combine two advanced technologies to prepare for your arrival. • CAREpoint™ is a communication device that allows ambulance technicians to transmit your electrocardiogram (EKG) readings to the hospital while en route. • The AirStrip app provides cardiologists immediate access to the EKG readings on an iPhone or iPad, further expediting the treatment process. "These technologies allow heart attack patients to bypass the Emergency Department and go straight to the catheterization lab for lifesaving treatment," says Marsha Colwell, Vice President of Cardiovascular Services at Redmond Regional. "When the EKG is transmitted prior to arrival, we are able to reduce the critical door-to-treatment time by an average of 23 minutes." If you experience heart attack symptoms, call 911 immediately. Redmond Regional Medical Center from the ceo This holiday season, we have a lot to celebrate at Redmond Regional Medical Center. The Joint Commission recently named us a "Top Performer on Key Quality Measures" for the second year in a row, recognizing our achievements in quality, evidenced-based care in the areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. The Joint Commission is the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in America, and that means they know about high-quality care. For us, this is a huge honor that validates our efforts to focus on providing the right care every time. What this means for you is that you can have confidence in us and know that high-quality healthcare is available right here in your hometown, right here at Redmond Regional. About this time last year, we learned that Georgia Trend magazine ranked us as Georgia's No. 1 MediumSized Hospital. That ranking was based upon publicly reported data including facts about quality of care, patient satisfaction, hospital-acquired infections and conditions, and more. We are eager to see the new rankings due out in Georgia Trend's December issue to see how we fare in 2013. But you don't have to wait to learn more about the quality services here at Redmond Regional. In this issue of connect, we feature information about heart care. February is American Heart Month. As Northwest Georgia's heart hospital with the area's only openheart surgery program and comprehensive heart care services, we at Redmond Regional are ready to help you in your time of need. On page 6, read about the important differences in heart attack symptoms experienced by men and women. On page 2, you can also learn about the technological advances that enable us to care for your heart faster and to potentially save heart muscle. What are you looking forward to this holiday season? While your answer probably doesn't involve a trip to the doctor or the hospital, we hope this issue of connect provides you with confidence and reassurance that Redmond Regional is here when you need us. If you find yourself in a healthcare emergency, we're ready to take care of you. And if you're having a heart attack, know that we're working hard to be ready for you before you arrive. Wishing you and your family a safe and healthy holiday season, John Quinlivan, FACHE REDMOND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
