World-Class Oncology in the North Country Thanks in part to fundraising efforts by the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Foundation, the Varian TrilogyTM linear accelerator, to be used in addition to our current linear accelerator, will arrive in early 2014, offering residents more treatment options than ever. Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) can be used with more types of cancer and allows radiation to be delivered directly to cancerous tissue without damaging the healthy tissue surrounding the affected area. The Trilogy performs stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), as well. Patients typically experience reduced treatment times and less fatigue or nausea that occur during traditional radiation oncology therapy. "Our oncology team has been working with this technology for some time and is highly trained and skilled," says Jerry Sheppard, director of the Richard E. Winter Cancer Center at Claxton-Hepburn. "We are the only hospital offering SBRT and SRS with the Varian Trilogy linear accelerator in the region. The community has been anticipating this accelerator's arrival for some time, and we are pleased to offer its services to our patients."
