Delivery Your Way Transforming World-Class Pediatric Care A $135 million expansion project is well under way at the Children's Hospital of San Antonio. Hospital units have been relocated to make way for the creation of new patient rooms and treatment areas. The completed project will include: • 200 private patient rooms • new, dedicated spaces for treatment, education, recreation, and research • 12 operating rooms tailored for children • a dedicated pediatric emergency room, with plans to achieve Level I Trauma status In collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children's Hospital, and community private practice physicians, the Children's Hospital of San Antonio has recruited more than 60 pediatric specialists to join its outstanding medical staff. To learn more about the transformation of San Antonio's first freestanding children's hospital, visit ourchildrenwillbefirst.com. Epidural anesthesia or all-natural distraction techniques? That's just one of the many considerations a mom-to-be must weigh while planning her and her baby's important event. When making birthing decisions, it may be helpful to focus on three key factors: Will the facility be comfortable for mother and family? Is educational support provided? Does the level of medical expertise instill confidence? For a wide variety of medical and supportive services, turn to one of our three Mother and Baby Centers: Children's Hospital of San Antonio, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – New Braunfels, and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills. PATIENT-LED, PATIENT COMFORT The Mother and Baby Center at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – New Braunfels relies on its highly competent staff to provide expectant mothers with the delivery they envision. "The nursing staff is able to adjust to any situation—we inform patients of the processes and resources here, but patients drive their experience," says Tammy Huff, Birthing Center director. "If mom wants a home-like setting, we completely support that. If mom knows she's going to have an epidural, we support that as well. We let our patients set the expectations." The Center also focuses on accommodating the family before, during, and after the birth. "There's a sleeper couch in each room for dad, and our rooms and furnishings are cozy and warm," Huff says. "We do everything we can to make sure patients know that they are being cared for as if they were a part of our family." EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT "We offer a wide range of classes, including Happiest Baby on the Block, which teaches soothing techniques for fussy babies, and a breastfeeding class," says Dianna Hagl, nursing director of Women's and Infant Services at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills. Westover Hills, New Braunfels, and Children's Hospital of San Antonio are all Texas Ten Step Facilities, which means they are among 13 percent of hospitals in the state that promote breastfeeding through their policies and practices.
