Dr. Harris had served as EHMC's Chief of Surgery and Surgical Services since joining the Medical Center in 2012. He was recruited from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, where he distinguished himself in a variety of clinical, administrative and academic roles. In his new role, Dr. Harris will work closely with medical staff, executive leadership, the board of trustees and nursing leadership to foster growth and ensure continued excellence across all clinical services at EHMC. He will continue to provide surgical care to patients with inflammatory bowel disease and colorec - tal cancer. Joseph Tauro, MD, Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at New Jersey Medical School and Director of Ocean County Sports Medicine, a comprehensive, regional orthopedic practice focused on leading- edge medical care and excellent patient outcomes, was asked to teach at the Eighth Turkish Congress of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, held by the Turkish Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, in Izmir, Turkey, March 19–22. Dr. Tauro was selected for being an internationally recognized pio - neer in advanced orthopedic care for surgi- cal and nonsurgical procedures. His pri- mary lecture topic was arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. He highlighted the innovative and most advanced method for performing this type of surgery, which he has patented. Dr. Tauro was honored to be selected and to teach among the top orthopedic surgeons and physicians in the world. More information about Dr. Tauro can be found at http://www.doctortauro.com/. David H. Livingston, MD, was appointed President of the Western Trauma Association (WTA) for 2013–14 and presided over the 44th Annual Western Trauma Association conference in Steamboat Springs, Colo., March 1–7. The WTA, founded by general and orthopedic surgeons, is the only multispe - cialty trauma organization in the United States. As outlined in its mission statement, the WTA is committed to the improvement of trauma care through research, education, sharing of clinical experiences, as well as the develop - ment of physicians of all specialties who are involved in the care of trauma patients. It is dedicated to the care of the injured. Unique to this group, the goals of the association are not only the intellectual growth attained through increased knowledge, but also the emotional growth attained through camara - derie and interaction with family and friends in an environment conducive to winter sports. Dr. Livingston gave his Presidential Address, titled "Fellowship of the Snow," which de - scribed the optimal environment required for advanced professional education and personal growth, to an audience of 500 members, fam - ily and guests. Ross Zbar, MD, Division Chief of Plastic Surgery at HackensackUMC Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, N.J., traveled to Huehuetenango, Guatemala, with vol - unteers from Rotary International's District 6000 club's Miles of Smiles Team on a medical mission to better the lives of children born with facial deformi - ties of the lip and palate. Notes Dr. Zbar: "I've traveled with other or- ganizations and done many trips on my own, but I was particularly intrigued by the location for this trip. Traveling into the remote and mountainous western highlands meant bring - ing medical care directly to the people, rather than making them travel to see us." ■ Michael T.
