Perona Car 4 SPRING 2014 Is It Time for Yearly Mammograms? The American Society of Breast Surgeons recommends that women begin receiving yearly screening mammograms at age 40. If you have a particularly strong family history of breast cancer, your physician may recommend annual screenings begin at age 35. "Seventy-five percent of breast cancer cases occur in women with no family history for breast cancer," said Malini Iyer, M.D., breast surgeon at the Inspira Breast Center at Mullica Hill Commons. "All women are at some risk, and the risk for breast cancer increases with age. Women should not forgo annual screenings because they don't have a family history of breast cancer." Malini Iyer, M.D.
