Is It Time for Yearly
Mammograms?
The American Society of Breast
Surgeons recommends that women
begin receiving yearly screening
mammograms at age 40. If you
have a particularly strong family
history of breast cancer, your
physician may recommend annual
screenings begin at age 35.
"Seventy-five percent of breast
cancer cases occur in women with no
family history for breast cancer," said
Malini Iyer, M.D., breast surgeon at
the Inspira Breast Center at Mullica
Hill Commons. "All women are at
some risk, and the risk for breast
cancer increases with age. Women
should not forgo annual screenings
because they don't have a family
history of breast cancer."
