Her patients have described her as, "gentle, patient, a real gift" and "always so kind, caring and patient." Brittain Wood, BSN, RN, is a true champion of safety. He provides one-on-one staff instruction, creates monthly unit infection rate posters and quickly responds to phone calls and questions. Wood comes in at odd hours to work with EVS staff and multiple in-services in dialysis, ICU or other patient care areas. Tarsha Blalock, HUC, is the epitome of integrity. She stays a step ahead of her colleagues' needs so she is able to offer timely assistance. She brings patients coffee, warms their food, moves items where they can reach them and does everything she can to make them comfortable. Joanne Holowecki, RN-BC, BSN, CN IV, is a champion for diversity in her role as cardiac rehabilitation nurse. She made sure the facility was safe and offered every resource for a patient with significant cognitive needs. As a result of the 12-week program, the patient's functional ability improved, as well as her outlook. Andrea Layton, RNBC, CDE, has consistently embodied and modeled the value of teamwork. This past fall, she led the formation of the Lifestyle and Disease Management Center. The program continues to thrive because of her team's ability to creatively work together to meet the needs of our patients and community. The Duke University Health System values focus on deliver- ing the best care possible to all Duke Medicine patients and providing a values-centered culture throughout the health system.
