The nurses were absolutely wonderful, the doctors kept me well informed, the social worker nurses treated me like family and the hospice personnel helped everyone. I commend the whole hospital staff." Good Nutrition Good Nutrition ON MARCH 18, the hospital's cafeteria featured a more extensive salad bar with fresh vegetables, nuts and legumes. Hospital visitors, patients and staff were encouraged through the salad bar to eat as many colors of the rainbow as possible to have a healthy, appealing meal. Another way to incorporate healthy foods into one's diet is with fruits. The hospital's staff, patients and visitors were treated on March 20 to a fruit bar that included fresh berries, oranges, grapes and various other kinds of fruit. This was done also to mark Go Red, a campaign that raises awareness about women's risk of heart disease. A diet that incorporates fresh fruits and vegetables can help to lower the risk of heart disease. In addition to these tasty treats, cooking demonstrations and other events were held for Franklin's staff to educate them about healthy eating habits and tips, which are then passed on to patients and visitors. "We've had a lot of positive feedback from these events," said Stephanie Whitten, nutrition operations manager at Franklin. "Our guests love trying new dishes. It's nice to be able to raise nutrition awareness through our food." "I would like to thank all of the Franklin staff who participated in the national nutrition month activities and particularly all those who made these events possible," said Edward Cox, assistant executive director and director of nutrition and patient relations at Franklin. "Healthy eating is such a vital part of people's wellness and we want to provide our patients, visitors and staff with as much information and healthy opportunities as we can." Franklin Hospital marked national nutrition month in March with a series of interactive demonstrations and challenges. The hospital's cafeteria menu also began offering a wider variety of grilled options during this time.
