2 chofsa.org Dear Friends: We have a long history of commitment to the children of South-Central Texas and beyond, which began in 1869 when the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word vowed to care for the children of San Antonio and put their health care needs first. Today, our mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ is helping countless young lives grow healthy and strong in the face of significant medical challenges. One significant way we are fulfilling our mission is through the development of an integrated network of care for children. Physician groups working with the Children's Hospital of San Antonio are making highly specialized care available to families in the neighborhoods where they live. Please see page 10 for details. Also in this issue of Forever First, we highlight a story about a little boy named Reid who came into the world requiring specialized care. As his family turned to doctors for help, they realized Reid would need the level of expertise found at the Children's Hospital of San Antonio. It's gratifying to be able to tell you that world-class medical care is available for children like Reid right here in San Antonio. I hope you'll take a few minutes to read about his story on pages 4 and 5. We are excited to tell you that our patients will begin resting and recovering in all-new private rooms this fall. Every design element has been thoughtfully chosen, from the fabrics to the surfaces, to provide a comfortable and healing atmosphere for our patients and their families. I invite you to take a few moments to review page 3 to read about the wonderful changes on the way. We hope you are spending some quality time this summer with your loved ones. This season offers so many great opportunities to get outdoors, get active, and grow closer to your family and friends. If you need creative ideas for summer fun, we've offered some helpful suggestions on pages 6 and 7. We'd love to see how you and your family are spending your summer vacation.
