As we relaunch this publication, we call it Yes Ma'am to respectfully represent our culture of Southern ladies, women we hope can enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy creating it for you. We are also saying "yes ma'am, you can" take on any health and wellness challenge when your strong will is put to it. I realized I was a full- blown adult when a high school student addressed me as "ma'am" for the first time. I paused for a second, in complete shock that I looked old enough to be considered a "ma'am." But I know he was doing what any good Southern momma teaches her child to do— respecting others with an added "ma'am" or "sir." Our title acknowledges that distinguished Southern woman who is as charming and respected as she is smart. Growing up, I remember having to give my Poppa a quarter if I did not say "yes ma'am" or "yes sir." These courtesies are just part of who I am, part of my Southern language and way of life. They remind me of growing up in Georgia and Mississippi. I wish people now were taught more of the manners we learned growing up.
