Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, President/CEO of the NuHealth System, proudly announces that, in the most recent Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Nursing Home Compare rat - ings of nursing homes incorporating data reported through April 30, 2014, the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility in Uniondale had retained its five stars in overall quality. This ranking from the federal government yardsticks to nursing homes consists of overall rating, health inspections, nurse staffing and quality measures of individual care. In 2011 the New York State Department of Health initiated a new survey process called the Quality Indicator Survey. The new rankings are built atop the data and ratings found on Nursing Home Compare, a federal website created by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The agency collects and analyzes information about more than 15,500 nursing homes nation - wide that accept Medicare or Medicaid residents and rates the facilities on numer - ous measures, from safe food preparation to the amount of nursing care per resident. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Innovation Center has awarded a $2.5 million grant that will enable the North Shore-LIJ Health System to expand its Healthy Transitions program for people with chronic kidney disease. The program, led by North Shore-LIJ's Janet and John Raggio Nephrology Institute, brings together vari - ous parts of chronic kidney disease patient care. With the grant, Steven Fishbane, MD, estimates the program can be expanded to an additional 400 patients. +++++++++++++++++++ + +++ + +++ +++++++++++++++++++ LOCAL NEWS Nassau University Medical Center's EMS/ Ambulance Division crews provided emergency ambulance service for the 2014 Long Island Marathon held May 4 at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. The crews assessed and transported several participants of the marathon to Nassau University Medical Center for further treatment. This is the eighth year EMS has provided ambulance service to the Nassau County/LI Marathon.
