T HE LATEST NIGHT of networking at Ferguson was very educational. A group of builders, remodelers, architects and designers attended to learn about the concept of Passive House building. According to the organization Passive House Institute U.S., "The Passive House concept represents today's highest energy standard, with the promise of slashing the heating energy consumption of buildings by an amazing 90 percent." The presentation by Steven Baczek was outstanding. Baczek is an area architect with more than 20 years of building experience. He fuses training in the building science and architectural fields to design top-of-the-line homes, including one of New England's first examples of the Passive House and the very first U.S. Passive House retrofit.
