In fact, more than 80% of all health care diagnostic and treatment decisions involve some form of pathology investigation, making pathology services a key element in quality care.” In our cover story, we talk with the doctors at Kansas Pathology Consultants P.A., a multistate, regional anatomic pathology and cytology laboratory based in Wichita, which recently celebrated its 15-year anniversary. Its history, however, is much, much more. Please join us inside for a closer look. In our feature this month, we bring you a topic that we have not covered within the pages of MD News Greater Kansas to date. Being a physician and health care publication, we feel that an adequate supply of well-trained health professionals, such as medical billers and coders and medical assistants, are integral to the quality of care delivered at hospitals and health systems. With the intent of staying abreast of local business trends and addressing the need for exceptionally trained professionals to address market needs, Wichita Technical Institute has recently added programs in the medical fi eld. We thank the institute for sitting down and taking a few minutes to talk with us in this higher learning feature. This month’s physician profi le also covers in an area that we’ve never discussed in MD News Greater Kansas: podiatry. Whether it is the result of a foot malformation, injury or simply too many years of squeezing into ill-fi tting shoes, foot problems can wreak havoc on patients’ feet and on their livelihoods. Podiatric care is designed to ensure continued functionality of the foot and ankle areas. Miki Matsuda, D.P.M., M.B.A., enjoys treating patients with joint and ligament problems, as well as those with congenital deformities, and offers a plethora of surgical and nonsurgical solutions. Also in this issue, Jeannine Cobb, M.D., FACOG, discusses the increased rate of obesity among pregnant woman and the recent research on obesity in our country.
