HRMC recently upgraded the equipment used to perform colonoscopies, a diagnostic procedure that allows a doctor to look inside the colon and rectum and remove precancerous growths known as polyps. Purchase of the new Olympus ScopeGuide ® equipment, which makes having a colonoscopy more comfortable for the patient, was made possible by a grant from the HRMC Foundation's Mary Ann and H.L. Saylor, Jr. Surgical Endowment Fund. The interactive installation debuted at the Relay for Life of Beadle County in late May. Upcoming events are the Men's Expo, Sept. 13, South Dakota State Fairgrounds, and the SD Women's Expo, Sept. 27, South Dakota State Fairgrounds. "We purchased this display so residents can fully visualize how polyps form in the colon and how early detection through routine colonoscopy screenings can keep them healthy," says Paul Rann, executive director of the HRMC Foundation.
