riting for Medical Practice
Insider, Doyle offers tips for
getting the best people for
the job, including:
+ Make your practice stand out. Why
would a physician want to join your
practice? Doyle advises surveying cur-
rent staff to get a feel for what makes
them stay the course, including practice
culture and perks — and whether the
physicians you're looking to hire will be
appropriate fits for those same reasons.
+ Understand what younger candidates
want. According to a recent HealthCare
research study, physicians younger than
age 40 are more interested in maintain-
ing a healthy work/life balance than
are their older counterparts, who paid
their dues in 80-hour work weeks. Can
you offer that balance to the latest
generation of physicians? Doyle also
recommends providing tangible incen-
tives, such as student loan repayment.
+ Stay up to date on technolog y.
Government reform continues to guide
technology changes in health care, and
the newest physician recruits want to
work in a tech-savvy environment. If
you're still working on implementing
EHR or other electronic healthcare
tools, you could be losing out on great
staffing potential, according to Doyle. ■
