YOUR ACT TOGETHER? D Yo Hav The passage of the ACA in 2010 was a watershed moment for children's health. The law extends and expands health insurance coverage for children and eliminates many barriers families once faced when seeking to keep their most precious members healthy, including: • Coverage cancellation due to illness — If your child gets sick, she won't lose her coverage. • Denial of coverage — Your child can't be denied benefits if he or she is younger than 19 regardless of a preexisting medical condition, such as diabetes. • Lifetime limits — Gone are caps on how much insurance companies will pay for benefits during an individual's life. • Out-of-pocket costs — Annual limits on how much your family must pay individually and collectively will reduce health care's hit on your budget and savings. Prevention? Check. Wellness? Check If you are enrolled in an insurance plan on the federal Health Insurance Marketplace, you can select any participating pediatrician or family medicine physician to be your child's primary care doctor. Your plan covers preventive medical, oral and vision services for your children free of deductibles and copays. These include: • behavioral health assessments • hearing screening for infants • immunizations through age 18 • oral health risk assessments through age 10 • vision screenings • well-child visits These plans also include pediatric coverage for prescription medications, hospitalization, labora- tory services, emergency care and rehabilitation. Your children deserve to grow up healthy, and now there's no reason why they shouldn't receive the medical care that will help them on their way. Don't let your children miss out on the preventive health services to which they're entitled by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). Did You Know? A provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act allows your children to stay on your employer-provided insurance policy until age 26.
