PO Box 447 1373 East State Road 62 Madison, Indiana 47250-0447 "HAVING A GOOD strategy in place helps keep wellness goals on track," says Heather Foy, Wellness Coordinator at King's Daughters' Health. "That's especially important after the honeymoon phase is over. Those first 10 pounds may fly off, but being able to sustain those changes in the long run is what really makes a difference." Make Regular Contributions Getting healthy doesn't have to be expensive, but investing some of your hard earned money in a trainer or new pair of athletic shoes may help keep you motivated. Get Aountable "Enlist the help of fitness buddies, and think of them as your board and investors," Foy recommends. "They can be friends, your spouse, a trainer or people on a fitness message board – anybody who encourages you to keep moving and celebrates your success." Set Smart Goals Supplement big picture goals with specific, attainable, short-term targets, such as running a 5K, losing five percent of your weight or lowering your blood pressure 10 points. When you reach one, set another, that way you're always working towards your next step. Enjoy Your Dividends Don't forget to stop and celebrate your achievements, but skip the tub of movie popcorn when you do. Get together with friends, buy a new outfit or treat yourself to a massage. You've earned it! ■ For more tips on getting started, being active and setting goals, visit our wellness blog at www.kdhmadison.org. GIRLS ON THE RUN Wellness has the power to inspire. That's why King's Daughters' Health hosts the local chapter of Girls on the Run – a national curriculum that uses a fitness-based running program to build joy, health and confidence in school-aged girls. On Nov. 22, join Girls on the Run for a 5K. Visit www.kdhmadison.org to register.
