www.christusspohn.org A community resource in the heart of the Coastal Bend community for more than 20 years, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi– South provides a wide range of women's services. Women now have a new level of support with the addition of OB/GYN hospitalists. CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital South is the only hospital in the region to bring obstetric care to expectant mothers with on-site board certified OB/GYN physicians to support the hospital 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. SUPPORT DURING MOMENTS OF UNCERTAINTY When something goes wrong during any stage of pregnancy, the continued health of mother and baby is dependent on having immediate access to a skilled physician who is prepared to provide the necessary care. In a gynecologic emergency, a specialized physician can make the difference for your well-being and peace of mind. Rest assured that immediate care is within reach at South's OB emergency department. OB hospitalists provide emergency care in times of crisis in collaboration with the patient's private physician. If a woman is already in the care of an OB, that physician may opt to have the OB hospitalist proceed with immediate care rather than wait for him or her to get to the hospital. If a patient does not have a private physician when she arrives, the OB hospitalist will manage the patient's care. Often working hand-in-hand with family medicine residents and their supervisors, OB hospitalists provide emergency and inpatient care for expectant mothers or women with gynecological issues. "Among the many advantages of having OB hospitalists on site are improved patient safety and patient satisfaction by having immediate availability of specialists in the management of high-risk obstetric encounters and emergencies," says Kathleen Rasmussen, MD, PhD, OB/GYN, Vice President of Medical Affairs at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital South. "Hospitalists also care for unassigned and uninsured patients and ensure that all patients coming to the hospital are provided the very best medical care, regardless of circumstance." The new OB hospitalist program is a win-win relationship for the physician and the patient. "We strive to maintain a quality experience for all our patients from the moment they walk in the door to when they go home," says Mark Casanova, MHA, BSRRT, Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital South. "Our experienced physicians and nursing staff have been the guiding light in our hospitals—they're a strong, highly trained group of caring and compassionate professionals." For premature newborns or babies with special needs, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi–South has a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Our NICU allows babies with a low birth weight or multiple medical problems to stay close to home—and close to their parents. Carıng for Women 24/7
