GOING THE EXTRA MILE When Marcie Wingfi eld, 32, Vice President of Crossroads Ford Lincoln in Frankfort, began experiencing pain in her side, she consulted with Evan K. Dicken, MD, internal medicine physician in Frankfort. After undergoing nuclear diagnostic tests, it was determined that Marcie should have her gallbladder removed in the near future. "I wanted to wait a while after receiving the diagnosis," says Marcie. "But when I began experiencing sharp pains, I knew it was time to take the next step." Marcie was referred to J. Timothy Bowling, MD, board-certifi ed general surgeon at Frankfort Regional. "Since Marcie was experiencing typical symptoms associated with gallbladder disease, such as nausea and upper abdominal pain, I recommended she undergo a laparoscopic cholecystectomy [gallbladder removal], " says Dr. Bowling. "Because this procedure was performed on an outpatient basis, Mrs. Wingfi eld was able to return to the comfort of her home within hours. Our state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center is designed with the patient and their family in mind so we can offer personal attention to each patient." Since undergoing the procedure, Marcie has been able to return to work without pain. "I am so glad that I had fl exibility in scheduling Dr. Bowling and Marcie Wingfi eld my surgery," says Marcie. "Additionally, I had previous laparoscopic surgeries to treat endometriosis, and I was concerned I may have problems that required another surgery. Dr. Bowling scheduled to have a gynecological surgeon available during my surgery to examine my ovaries. Luckily, everything was fi ne, but the surgeons went above and beyond to ensure my medical questions were answered." 4
