PEDIATRIC INTENSIVIST LAURA HAWS, MD, JOINS WESLEY MEDICAL CENTER'S PEDIATRIC SERVICES TEAM Wesley Medical Center continues to provide superior pediatric services with the addition of pediatric intensivist Laura Haws, MD, to its pediatric services team. Wesley now has four pediatric critical care specialists to care for seriously ill children. "Caring for critically injured children requires different sets of skills," Dr. Haws says. "You need to possess the medical knowledge to treat their conditions, but also provide them care in a way that puts them at ease." As a member of both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Haws is comfortable working with children, from neonates through young adults. She completed her pediatric residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City and then fulfilled a three-year pediatric critical care fellowship at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Coming to Wesley to practice was an easy choice, she says, be - cause of the emphasis Wesley has placed on pediatrics. Dr. Haws began her position with Wesley in October. WESLEY PARTNERS WITH RESEARCH MEDICAL CENTER TO OPEN WICHITA TRANSPLANT INSTITUTE Responding to a community need for kidney transplant services, Wesley Medical Center is partnering with Research Medical Center in Kansas City to open a new kidney transplant clinic on the Wesley campus. The new Wichita Transplant Institute will offer referring physi - cians and their patients access to high-quality, specialized kidney transplant services close to home. Patients who need to be evaluated by a transplant surgeon and transplant nephrologist for the consider - ation of a kidney transplant will be seen by Research Medical Center physicians at the clinic, which will also provide pre- and post-trans - plant care. Surgical kidney transplant procedures will be performed at Research Medical Center in Kansas City. "We are excited about the opportunity to provide this service to our patients and help limit the times they have to travel out of the area for care," says Hugh Tappan, Wesley President and CEO. "The physicians and staff at Research Medical Center have a sterling reputation, and we know we're putting our patients in excellent hands when we partner with them." The new clinic is located at 551 North Hillside, Suite 520, and is scheduling patients now. Marilee Clites, Research Medical Center Transplant Director, will oversee the clinic's operations, with support staff coordinating each patient's care through the clinical, compliance, financial and emotional aspects of kidney transplantation. "We are thrilled to add the Wichita region, and even areas in Oklahoma, to the regions we serve," says Jackie DeSouza, President and CEO of Research Medical Center. "It's important to offer medical care as close as possible to a patient's referring physician and home." Research Medical Center's Transplant Institute in Kansas City has an active and growing Living Donor Program and Kidney Paired Exchange Program. Both programs will be extended to the new Wichita location to increase the availability of services for living donors who choose to make a lifesaving kidney donation. Board-certified transplant surgeon Daniel Murillo, MD, Medical Director of Research Medical Center's Transplant Institute since 2003, and double board-certified transplant nephrologist Pranav Dalal, MD, will provide medical services at the clinic. Both Dr. Murillo and Dr. Dalal have earned a reputation for being premier physicians in the field of kidney transplantation, having per - formed more than 1,000 transplants at Research Medical Center's Transplant Institute. To schedule an appointment at the clinic, patients or physicians can call 316-962-6350. For more information, visit researchmedical center.com or wesleymc.com. WESLEY NAMES VETERAN LEADER BILL VOLOCH INTERIM CEO Wesley Medical Center has named Bill Voloch, an innovative healthcare leader with more than 14 years' experience in hospital management, its interim CEO. Voloch has served as Wesley's chief operations officer since 2013, and he has been instrumental in the development of the Wesley EmergencyCare Network, multiple capital projects — including a $36 million renovation of its women's hospital — and several new patient experience initiatives. Wesley is conducting a nationwide search for a permanent CEO after Hugh Tappan, who served as Wesley's president and CEO for more than eight years, was recently promoted to President of HCA's South Atlantic Division. HCA is the parent company of Wesley. "It has been amazing to watch the expert care our dedicated physicians, nurses and other medical professionals deliver every day, and I'm honored to help lead this incredible team into the future," Voloch says. "I'm looking forward to this challenge, but my priorities for Wesley won't change — we are going to continue to deliver an outstanding patient experience and unmatched quality of care." In his chief operations officer role, Voloch oversees emergency department and oncology operations, as well as patient experience initiatives. He also manages facilities and support services.
