s t d o m .c o m CONTRIBUTORS I love junk food, especially a salty snack, and sometimes I do indulge. But I balance my diet by eating mostly vegetables and fruit, lean proteins and the rare low-fat dairy. I considered what works for my body when choosing my eating lifestyle, like what type of foods satisfy me—whole grains and fiber don't keep me full, but protein does. Fueling my body with great-for-me food and exercise makes me feel refreshed, strong, young and energized. STEPHANIE EDITOR A couple of years ago, I learned I have extremely high cholesterol. I have always maintained a healthy weight and a normal blood pressure, so this was a shock. It turns out I inherited it. Since then, I have cut back on fried foods, meat and dairy products, and I eat more nuts, fruits and vegetables. I still eat sweets and salty snacks, but in moderation. In the process, I have lowered my cholesterol and generally feel better. MAGGIE EDITOR When making a fresh start, it works best for me to set realistic, achievable goals and anticipate interruptions in my schedule. Some days, exercise may mean getting up from my desk and taking a walk or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. There are so many ways to incorporate healthy choices into our busy lives—it just takes finding what works best for you.
