T o our friends, In the United States, approximately 133 million people are living with a chronic illness, such as heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. These illnesses can be physically and emotionally taxing, but for residents of the North Country, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center provides the necessary resources to help people cope. Specialists from a variety of fields can work with patients to monitor their diseases and give them the information and tools they need to manage their conditions. In some cases, lifestyle modifications can improve or eliminate chronic conditions. For people with chronic kidney disease, the Dr. Ravinder N. Agarwal Renal Center is an exceptional resource, right in their backyard. Highly trained physicians and medical staff work with patients through every stage of the disease. It was hidden on page 2! 2 L I V ING WE L L www.claxtonhepburn.org Advanced Practice Providers Welcoming Mylene Jumalon, FNP Mylene Jumalon, FNP, family nurse practitioner, comes to the pain management practice of Juan Diego-Harris, MD, from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, NY, where she served as a perioperative nurse. Jumalon earned a bachelor of science in nursing from St. Paul University of Manila, Philippines, and a master of science in family nursing from Binghamton University. The Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center emergency department welcomes Christopher Haserodt, physician assistant, from Brockville General Hospital in Brockville, Ontario, Canada, where he also served in the emergency department. Haserodt received emergency medical technician certification from Miami-Dade Community College in Miami, FL, and a bachelor of science in medical sciences from the University of Detroit Mercy Physician Assistant Program in Detroit, MI. He is a member of the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants. Christopher LaPoint, physician assistant, is the latest addition to the hospitalist program at Claxton-Hepburn. LaPoint joins the medical staff from Hillside Family of Agencies in Varick, NY, where he worked as a diagnostic unit supervisor. He received a bachelor of arts in clinical and child psychology from Alfred University in Rochester, NY, and his bachelor of science in physician assistant studies from Rochester Institute of Technology. LaPoint is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Physician Assistant Student Association, and the Rochester Regional Physician Association. Deborah McCabe joins the medical center's Hammond Area Health Center from Black River Medical Center in Watertown, NY. McCabe earned a bachelor of science in biology from Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT. She also received a bachelor of science in health science, master's degree in health science, and physician assistant certification from Duke University in Durham, NC. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, the New York State Society of Physician Assistants, the Society of Air Force Physician Assistants, and the Society of Army Physician Assistants.
