Veterans ON NOVEMBER 11, BON SECOURS MEMORIAL REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER HONORED THE SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN OF THE UNITED STATES WITH THE ANNUAL VETERANS' DAY CELEBRATION. This date, initially called "Armistice Day," was fi rst designated a day of remembrance in 1919 for its signifi cance one year earlier, when in the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the military powers of "the Great War," now called World War I, signed a ceasefi re. That armistice ended fi ghting that had been characterized by trenches, tanks, mustard gas and mud. From that time on, American citizens have honored the men and women of our military who have fought for peace on this date, which was renamed "Veterans' Day" following World War II. Memorial Regional was built in large part to serve the needs of veterans of World War II. The hospital has continued to honor the sacrifi ces of those who have served our nation, especially area residents who died during military service in wartime. The hospital courtyards are home to eight large memorial plaques paying tribute to military heroes from Richmond — and we consider the very existence of Memorial Regional a tribute to their service as well. 8 0 4 - 7 6 4 - 6 0 0 0 bonsecours.com/yourgoodhelp 7
