MEDCENFOUNDATION.ORG | Impact | 3 MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR What a pleasure it is to once again address you as the Chair of the Medcen Board of Trustees! e purpose of Medcen Community Health Foundation, Navicent Health is to seek, steward and distribute charitable gis supporting Navicent Health and its aliates. Additionally, Medcen supports community-based programs that enhance the health status of the citizens of central and southern Georgia. We focus so much of our energ y seeking and stewarding gis, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to highlight some of our recent distributions. In this issue, you'll read an in-depth story about how the Healthcare Employees Achieving Tomorrow (HEAT) Fund knocked it out of the park by providing $400,000 to relocate and expand Children's Health Center, Navicent Health. What a great story about Taylor Sanders, Georgia's Miracle Child! For all of you who support our Children's Hospital, you are part of this story. You helped make this miracle happen. You'll also learn how Medcen is helping address the health care needs of our homeless community through our partnership with Daybreak. On the fundraising side, you'll learn about the beautiful legacy of Diane Atkins and how clay birds and shotguns can help prevent breast cancer. ank you all for your support. Let's keep it going. WITH THE SUPPORT OF SOLID LEADERSHIP, NAVICENT HEALTH IS STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE. ese three chief executive ocers helped usher in some of the health system's best years and biggest accomplishments. Medcen Community Health Foundation salutes their contributions. Leadership Healthcare Damon D. King, FACHE 1968–1997 Mr. King laid the groundwork for what would become Navicent Health during his tenure of nearly three decades, guiding the health system from uncertainty to nancial stability and establishing a lasting legacy of care in central Georgia. A. Donald Faulk Jr., FACHE 1997–2012 Mr. Faulk stepped up to the plate in 1997 as CEO of what was then known as Central Georgia Health System. His accomplishments include the opening of the Peyton Anderson Health Education Center, purchase of Middle Georgia Hospital—which became our Children's Hospital—Pine Pointe Hospice and the Albert Luce Jr. Heart Institute. Dr. Ninfa M. Saunders, FACHE 2012–present Since taking the helm in 2012, Dr. Saunders has overseen the foundation of Stratus Healthcare, a cooperative hospital network, and expanded the presence of Navicent Health to more outlying areas. Her work has been recognized by Becker's Hospital Review, the Georgia Diversity Council and the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals.
