A Birthday to Remember Greg's 40th birthday celebration was out of thisworld. Greg Burr loves watching movies at home—especially Star Wars and Despicable Me. It made sense, then, that those movies would make an appearance at Greg's 40th birthdayparty. A large Despicable Me cake, as well as a Star Wars-themed cake, were served alongside barbecue, corn on the cob, fries, and potatosalad. Almost 75 of Greg's friends and family members were there to celebrate with him. His employers, from a bank in Park River, gave him a unique map of the United States made out of state license plates—a nod to his love oftravel. Between the wonderful food, good friends, and colorful decorations, it was difficult for Greg to choose his favorite part. "I had such a great time," Greg said. "If I want to top this party, I'm going to have to plan a trip to Las Vegas for my 50thbirthday!" I Got Friends in Chicago Places By Corrie Buhr It has been my goal for more than nine years to see Garth Brooks perform live in concert. Since Garth had retired, I never thought this would be possible. That all changed when I found out that Garth would be performing live in Chicago in September 2014. My personal advocate helped me plan for the trip and the concert. IN THE WINDY CITY The day before the concert, we drove all day to get to Chicago. When we nally arrived, I checked into the nice hotel where we would stay for the duration of my trip. The next day, I visited the Field Museum of Natural History, where I listened to dierent recordings about long-extinct animals, and I even took a picture with the largest T-Rex fossil ever found! After that, I walked around downtown, enjoying the sounds of the city. Before long, I was back in my room getting spruced up for the concert, knowing I needed to look my best for Garth Brooks! The concert was amazing. I danced, laughed, clapped along to my favorite songs, and cheered Garth on. He played until 1 a.m., and by then, I was exhausted. I feel so lucky to have seen Garth in concert. It was an incredible experience, and I hope to see him again someday. I Love DisneyWorld! By Gretchen Antal When my family talked about taking a trip to Florida, there was no question—I denitely wanted to go. We started planning last July. I have four jobs, so I was able to save up for it, and using a little creativity, I decided to pay for it over time. First, I decided to pay for the airplane ticket. Then, in September, I paid for the hotel room and meal package. It worked out great to pay in chunks, rather than all at once. Soon, the planning was over, and it was time for the fun. ENJOYING MAGICAL MOMENTS When I arrived with my family at Disney World on November 5, we immediately went to the Shades of Green resort, located at the theme park but operated by the Army. This was so great, because my dad was in the Army. I got to visit all three parks. My favorite attractions were Snow White's Mine Train, Dumbo, and It's A Small, Small World at Magic Kingdom. I liked the Toy Story and StarWars rides in Disney's Hollywood Studios. We went to a mini-golf course and shopped at Downtown Disney. It was an amazing trip. I've said it before and I'll say it again: "I love DisneyWorld!" CHI FRIENDSHIP /// www.chifriendship.com 7
