2 chofsa.org Dear Friends: Spring in San Antonio is a time of bloom and renewal. Bluebonnets and Texas wildflowers are blossoming, spring sports seasons are beginning for many children and families, and excitement about the end of school and summer is flourishing. Speaking of flourishing, the Children's Hospital of San Antonio continues to grow and expand its services throughout the city. Our transformation continues at an aggressive pace. Phase One of our new emergency department is complete and now open in downtown San Antonio. Our trained pediatric staff offers specialized emergency care 24/7 and can treat a wide range of children's emergencies. Phase Two of our ER will be complete in August. KidSTOP, a convenient place for children to receive physician-ordered blood tests, imaging, respiratory therapy, and intravenous therapy, is also newly transformed and open downtown. Our brand-new, full-service emergency center at Westover Hills opened April 28. It is a great addition to this community. We are also excited about the growth of our heart, cancer, and orthopedics programs. These programs continue to provide world-class, comprehensive services to our community and beyond. Spring is also a season associated with common childhood ailments, such as allergies, restless sleep, and ear infections, and it is particularly important for families to pay attention to the warning signs. In this issue, we hope to not only offer guidance as to when your physician should be involved, but highlight the vital role that healthy eating and preparing meals as a family has on your children's well- being. While the struggle to convince children to "eat their veggies" will always continue, gardening and cooking with your children can have a profound positive effect on mental as well as physical health. As our campus continues to transform, our commitment to putting children first remains constant and our top priority. We continue to provide excellent patient care for all children who require our services. Always putting children first, Elias J.
