Giveaway AnnounceMent ▲ a clear visiion for breast cancer prevention (CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1) "3-D mammography helps us positively impact the well-being of women close to home." BEHIND-THE-SCENES BOOST The advanced Hologic systems at Claxton-Hepburn use low- dose X-ray technology to capture multiple images of breast tissue. 3-D models created from these thin slices of tissue allow imaging specialists to spot lesions more easily, especially in dense breasts. From a patient perspective, 3-D mammography is much like traditional mammography. The duration of the screening is the same, and so is the time of compression. The real difference occurs behind the scenes, thanks to the detailed, 3-D images that are captured from a variety of angles during the screening. "The difference between a 3-D mammogram and a conventional mammogram is similar to the difference between an X-ray and a computed tomography or CT scan," says Debbie King, CRA, RT(R)(M), director of radiology and The Breast Health Center at the Connection for Women at Claxton-Hepburn. "This advancement allows us to see breast tissue in one millimeter thick layers for a much closer, more detailed view of any potential trouble areas." PEACE OF MIND Breast imaging specialists use that enhanced visibility to more accurately diagnose potential breast cancers. That means that only the women who are most likely to benet from follow-up visits and additional tests are contacted. As a result, Dr. Gharagozloo says, the advanced technology helps decrease patients' anxiety levels because the clarity of the 3-D images means fewer women are asked to return to the facility for additional testing. "3-D tomography technology unmasks hidden cancers in their smallest size when it is more easily curable," Dr. Gharagozloo says."This technology puts our facility at the forefront of the science of breast care and is a great complement to our advanced, comprehensive team of physicians and professionals bringing care to the women of the our county and surrounding areas." Right now, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center is embracing a change in local health care that will allow us to continue providing outstanding health care to residents of the North Country. In the winter of 2014, Claxton-Hepburn and River Hospital announced a plan to collaborate clinically to integrate local healthcare delivery. The two hospitals already have similar philosophies for community health care, and the collaboration will allow us to maintain and expand clinical services while allowing each hospital to maintain its unique identity. This collaboration allows us to take steps to leverage economies of scale while pursuing initiatives such as joint medical staff recruiting aimed at growing the services available locally. I'm excited about the possibilities associated with this collaboration, and I think you will be, too. Sincerely, Nathan Howell President and CEO
