if you have health insurance, you may be eligible for
no-cost breast cancer screening. The Affordable Care Act
requires healthcare plans to cover the full cost of yearly
screening mammograms for women ages 40 and older.
Free mammograms are available to anyone who has health
insurance through their employer, Medicare or Medicaid, or a
Healthcare.gov enrolled plan.
The American Cancer Society recommends women
receive a screening mammogram every year beginning
at age 40. All mammograms at Claxton-Hepburn Medical
Center are now performed using 3-D mammography
technology, which improves cancer detection and leads to
fewer false positives.
Other free screenings include those for
blood pressure, cholesterol, colorectal
cancer, Type 2 diabetes, HIV, obesity,
and tobacco use. In some cases,
some restrictions for age, medical
history, or lifestyle requirements
must be met in order to receive the
screenings at no cost, so talk
to your doctor or health
insurance provider about
covered services for you.
