Local farmers markets boast a colorful array of freshly picked fruits and vegetables. Sunny days inspire us to go outside and get active. With school out, we also have more time to enjoy with our kids, eating freshly prepared meals together, tending the backyard garden or venturing out on family bike rides. Another way to stay healthy is to take advantage of preventive healthcare services such as wellness exams and routine screenings. Unfortunately, many people don't have access to these services because they can't afford health insurance. That's why we at King's Daughters' Health are excited to be a part of the new Healthy Indiana Plan. HIP 2.0, as it's also known, is an affordable health insurance program, established by the state government under President Barack Obama's healthcare law, that helps cover medical costs and rewards members for being more health conscious. HIP 2.0 is available to any Indiana resident between ages 19 and 64 whose income is at or below 133 percent of the federal poverty level. For instance, a family of four with a household income of $33,865 would qualify for discounted insurance through HIP 2.0. More than 300,000 Hoosiers will be eligible for this affordable coverage option. If you've been neglecting your health because you can't afford quality insurance, I encourage you to consider HIP 2.0. Counselors at KDH can help you apply at no cost. Call our Main Campus Medical Building at (812) 801-0679 or our Downtown Medical Building at (812) 801-0451 today to get started. You can also visit www.kdhmadison.org/HIP2 for more information.
