Lake Health is one of 13 top perform- ing hospitals in Ohio for CT radia- tion safety, according to Consumer Reports (CR). CR ratings are based on the number of "double scans" performed and the steps hospitals take to reduce patients' exposure to unnecessary, excess radiation. Lake Health's Radiology Department is accredited by the American College of Radiology. This verifies the depart- ment is staffed with trained person- nel, equipment is properly maintained and protocols produce the lowest exposure in order to acquire a diag- nostic image. Cleveland Clinic's Lutheran Hospital announced completion of its $17.5 million Emergency Department expansion. The expansion doubles the size of the hospital's previous ED to 14,000 square feet and features a newly designed entrance, 21 new private rooms, a new split-flow triage and treatment area, and an additional X-ray machine and CT equipment to help expedite patient care. In 2014, Lutheran Hospital treated 26,000 patients in its ED, which has remained open during the entire construction process since the expansion efforts kicked off in July 2013. Mercy Medical Center's Cancer Center was recently presented with the 2014 Outstanding Achievement Award by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons Mercy is one of a select group of only 75 U.S. healthcare facil- ities with accredited cancer programs to receive this national honor for sur- veys performed last year. The award acknowledges cancer programs that achieve excellence in providing qual- ity care to cancer patients. The 75 cancer programs receiving the award represent 15 percent of programs surveyed by the CoC in 2014. The MetroHealth System and Discount Drug Mart have signed a letter of intent allowing for the open- ing of MetroHealth offices in vari- ous Discount Drug Mart locations in Cuyahoga County. Same-day primary care services will be offered to any- one who needs care, from young chil- dren to older adults.
