As part of a new agreement with the city of Long Beach, New York, the ambulances are secondary back ups to EMS calls on the barrier island. Under the agree - ment, South Nassau ambulances will respond when needed as backup for 911 calls. To en- sure proper treatment at the scene and while patients are en route, South Nassau ambu- lances are staffed with a paramedic who will be able to communicate with an emergency medicine physician. South Nassau's involve- ment in the Long Beach EMS partnership will be overseen by Joshua Kugler, MD, Chair of Emergency Medicine and Emergency Services Director, who also serves as Chair of the Nassau County Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Committee. The partner - ship is designed to improve the quality of emergency medical services for the residents of the barrier island. South Nassau ambulances are ready to respond as backup to Long Beach medical emergencies. LIJ Medical Center has been recognized by Susan G. Komen Greater New York City as its Community Impact and Innovation Award honoree this year. LIJ Medical Center is a Komen Greater NYC community partner working to address breast health disparities for African American and Hispanic women in the southeastern Queens and Jamaica, Queens areas through its Cancer Community Connection program, which is funded by Susan G. Komen Greater New York City. This is the fourth consecutive year that Susan G. Komen Greater New York City has funded the Cancer Community Connection Program, bringing its total support to more than $240,000 for community outreach, education and patient navigation services that promote breast health, regular breast cancer screening and early detection. With funding from the New York State Department of Health Cancer Services Program, uninsured women between 50 and 64 are provided free, state-of-the-art 3D mam - mograms, and are offered free pelvic exams, pap smears and colon cancer screenings by clinicians at Schlanger, Gottlieb & Partners Council Breast Imaging Center in Lake Success, and LIJ Medical Center in New Hyde Park. Screenings are available by appointment on weekdays and Saturdays. For more information or to make an appointment, call 718-470-4165. The second St. Catherine's EMS Dinner and Education Lectures Series was held at the Stonebridge Country Club in Smithtown on May 27. The series is an initiative coordinat - ed by the Community Outreach Program to foster excellence in healthcare services through improved communication and education. The medical center offers the free dinner and lecture quarterly, and EMS personnel can obtain CME credits. The EMS dinners are a direct result of St. Catherine's 2014-2016 Community Service Plan to fortify a comprehensive approach to as - sessing community health and developing and implementing action plans to improve community health through member and partner engagement. At the event, first responder Scott Waryold from the East Northport Fire Department was presented with the Protector of the Penumbra Award. Cohen Children's Medical Center's reputation for excellent pediatric care was given another boost today, with US News & World Report ranking the hospital among the top 50 nation - wide in nine of 10 pediatric specialties in its 2015-16 survey — marking the ninth consecu - tive year Cohen has been ranked in the top 50 in multiple categories. Cohen ranked among the nation's top 10 children's hospitals for its expertise in pediatric urology (#7). The medical center was also recognized in the following pediatric clinical areas: Neurology and Neurosurgery (#23), Diabetes and Endocrinology (#26), Neonatology (#30), Pulmonology (#38), Cancer (#42), Gastroenterology and GI Surgery (#44), Nephrology (#47) and Orthopedics (#50). Cohen's top 50 rankings in cancer, ortho - pedics, nephrology and diabetes were new additions to the list. The hospital's rankings in five other categories rose from last year's list. The Dolan Family Health Center in Greenlawn is partnering with the North Shore-LIJ Health System to provide care to people with HIV through a Ryan White Part C grant. The three-year grant, secured by the North Shore University Hospital Center for AIDS Research and Treatment (CART), allows pa - tients to see physicians, social workers, nurses, nurse case managers and pharmacists. The Dolan Family Health Center's HIV ser - vices will mirror what is already being offered through CART in Manhasset by expanding its comprehensive services into Suffolk County.
