11 Children's Hospital of San Antonio • chofsa.org ADVANCING MEDICINE IN SAN ANTONIO The Children's Hospital of San Antonio finalized construction of a 12,000-square- foot research center in May, thanks to a generous gift from the Max and Minnie Tomerlin Voelcker Fund. The Voelcker Clinical Research Center is a central location for the advancement of pediatric medicine. Researchers at the Center partner with Baylor College of Medicine — ranked No. 1 in the state of Texas for National Institutes of Health funding — to make major leaps in treatment. The Children's Hospital of San Antonio is a designated member of the Children's Oncology Group. We have 30 of our 50 active studies related to pediatric cancer. These protocols help us understand and improve outcomes for our patients and families. The Cancer and Blood Disorders Center outpatient clinic is a central hub for children who need hematology, oncology, rheumatology, and immunology treatment. This is a comprehensive pediatric cancer and blood disorders center, which includes on-site and readily available services in social work, psychology, child life, pharmacy, lab, and case management. Our multidisciplinary team includes pediatric hematologists, oncologists, immunologists, rheumatologists, surgeons, and specialty-trained nursing staff. Features of this clinic include: • 14 exam rooms • Dedicated infusion area with capacity up to 16 patients • Child Life activity rooms PATIENTS FIRST A cancer diagnosis can be difficult for a family, which is why the design of the clinic emphasizes comfort, privacy, and a friendly atmosphere. SPECIALIZED SERVICES We treat all types of childhood cancer and various blood disorders, such as leukemia, brain tumors, hemophilia, sickle cell disease, and much more. Elevating Cancer Care With New Facilities In June, the Children's Hospital of San Antonio unveiled the newest part of its exciting transformation — the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center outpatient clinic.
