ADVANCING MEDICINE IN
SAN ANTONIO
The Children's Hospital of San Antonio
finalized construction of a 12,000-square-
foot research center in May, thanks to a
generous gift from the Max and Minnie
Tomerlin Voelcker Fund.
The Voelcker Clinical Research Center is
a central location for the advancement
of pediatric medicine. Researchers at
the Center partner with Baylor College
of Medicine — ranked No. 1 in the
state of Texas for National Institutes of
Health funding — to make major leaps
in treatment.
The Children's Hospital of San Antonio
is a designated member of the
Children's Oncology Group. We have
30 of our 50 active studies related to
pediatric cancer. These protocols help us
understand and improve outcomes for
our patients and families.
The Cancer and Blood Disorders Center
outpatient clinic is a central hub for
children who need hematology, oncology,
rheumatology, and immunology treatment.
This is a comprehensive pediatric cancer and
blood disorders center, which includes on-site
and readily available services in social work,
psychology, child life, pharmacy, lab, and case
management. Our multidisciplinary team
includes pediatric hematologists, oncologists,
immunologists, rheumatologists, surgeons,
and specialty-trained nursing staff.
Features of this clinic include:
• 14 exam rooms
• Dedicated infusion area with capacity up
to 16 patients
• Child Life activity rooms
PATIENTS FIRST
A cancer diagnosis can be difficult for a

emphasizes comfort, privacy, and a friendly
atmosphere.
