If you find yourself out of creative ideas for
entertaining your children in these last few weeks of
summer, never fear. Spend your extra daylight hours
with these easy, inexpensive activities.
YOU'RE IT!
A great way to combine fun and physical activity
is a game of tag in the backyard. If your kids are
bored with the traditional version, have them
tag each other with water using cheap water-
squirting toys or a garden hose. If they're playing
in the evening, hand out flashlights and use
those instead.
GO HUNTING
All you need to set up a scavenger hunt in
your own backyard is a pen, paper, and a little
creativity. Come up with a list of items for your
children to find around the house or yard. For
older children, leave clues in various places so
your child has to complete a task to find the
next one.
PICNIC IN THE PARK
Why not head to one of Valley City's beautiful parks
for dinner and a show? Visit vcparks.com/events
for upcoming concerts and community theater
performances taking place at city parks throughout
the summer. If you're looking for a day or weekend
trip, visit parkrec.nd.gov for low-cost events at state
parks in celebration of the North Dakota Parks and
Recreation Department's 50th anniversary.
Don't let summer end without a back-to-school
checkup. Need a family medicine provider? Find
one by visiting www.mercyhospitalvalleycity.org
and selecting "Our Providers."
Make the most of summer vacations
without busting your budget.
