AT THE END OF THE DAY…
TAKE A MOMENT FOR YOURSELF AS YOU WRAP UP A BUSY DAY AND
ENJOY THESE POSITIVE THOUGHTS FROM AN HSHS SACRED HEART
HOSPITAL COLLEAGUE.
LAST MONTH, A FRIEND of mine went to the
doctor and had some lab work done because she had
been feeling rather fatigued.
One of the results came back a little out of the
"normal" range.
Of course, what was the first thing she did after
receiving the result? Googled it and totally freaked
herself out with all kinds of gloom and doom scenarios!
When she saw a specialist a week later, he wasn't nearly
as worried as she was. "There could be all kinds of
reasons for your test result," he explained patiently.
"You have to look at the big picture."
That got me thinking about how often I look at the
"big picture." It seems like, in my daily life, my attention
is focused on the minutiae—what I have to do in order
to accomplish this, that, or the next thing. Don't get me
wrong, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. But I know it's
also important to step back from time to time and
re-evaluate my life goals to make sure that I'm still
headed in the right direction.
Maintaining a big picture perspective on life helps me
not get bogged down in the hustle and bustle of daily
life. Otherwise, too quickly, the days turn into months
and the months turn into years, and suddenly I could
look back and think, "Where has the time gone? What
have I really accomplished?"
Note to self: To stay on the right path, and don't forget to look at the big picture.
