A 3-Star rating denotes the highest category for quality. STS recognizes programs across the nation for achieving exceptional outcomes such as mortality and absence of complications. Only 7 percent of open-heart programs that are evaluated by STS received the 3-Star designation for AVR in the country. "This achievement demonstrates a commitment to excellence in patient care and quality outcomes for our surgical teams in both Bremerton and Tacoma," said Greg Eberhart, MD, medical director, CHI Franciscan Health's cardiovascular services. The cardiac surgeons receiving the rating are Christopher King, MD, FACS, and William Reed, MD, FACS, at Harrison; and Craig Hampton, MD, FACS, Susan Hecker, MD, MPH, and John Luber, MD, FACS, at St. Joseph. CHI FRANCISCAN HEALTH AWARDED MARCH OF DIMES GRANT TO SUPPORT CENTERINGPREGNANC Y® PROGRAM IN TACOMA CHI Franciscan Health was awarded a one-year, $20,000 grant from the March of Dimes Washington Chapter to support and expand the CenteringPregnancy® program in Tacoma. Funding from the March of Dimes allowed CHI Franciscan to begin oering CenteringPregnancy® groups earlier this spring for patients at Franciscan Women's Health Associates – Pearl Place. CenteringPregnancy® is a group-visit prenatal care program that oers the three major components for prenatal care: health checks, education and support. Appointments are scheduled up-front and are generally held in the evening. All sessions are facilitated by a CHI Franciscan certied nurse-midwife or physician. By expanding the CenteringPregnancy® program, CHI Franciscan hopes to increase the number of at-risk, underserved women who can be served by timely prenatal care, increase the rates of breastfeeding and provide a critical social support system.
