"We are working hard to reposition our ministry to no longer think of ourselves as a collection of hospitals but as a health care system," says Paul Trevino, CEO of CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System. "We want to stay flexible and adaptable by keeping our patients first in mind and maintaining a high degree of communication with the people we serve." Outlined are some of the key points of our strategic plan to better serve you. IMPROVED CARE WITH A NEW FACE We are moving away from the image of a group of hospitals and moving toward the demonstration of a united health care system. With this change, our services will continue to place patients first and offer more access points to delivering high-quality, compassionate care at lower costs. A new logo reflects the unity of our health system. EXPANDING OUTPATIENT SERVICES AND REFOCUSING INPATIENT CARE A $10 million investment in Port Arthur/ Mid County echoes our approach to considering health care reform as an opportunity. Part of this investment is to repurpose a 37,000-square-foot structure to include services such as sports medicine, physician and imaging services, along with outpatient care and a freestanding emergency department. In an alliance with the Gulf Coast Health Center, the CHRISTUS Outpatient Center - St. Mary will be gifted to the organization to expand their access to health care of the underserved population of Port Arthur by the start of 2016. The alliance strives to meet the community's need for primary care and chronic disease management. CHRISTUS Hospital – St. Mary will become a short-stay surgical hospital, offering the following services to the community: • emergency department • endoscopy/GI services • laboratory services • outpatient chemotherapy and infusion services • outpatient diagnostic/ low-risk interventional catheterizations • outpatient services • outpatient surgery • radiology/imaging • short-stay inpatient surgeries INVESTING IN MORE TECHNOLOGY Other changes include a $2 million investment in neonatal services at St. Elizabeth, upgrading the neonatal intensive care unit to a Level III facility. In addition, St. Elizabeth is working toward a Level II trauma center designation, which currently applies to only 17 Texas hospitals. Transforming Health Care in Our Community In concert with health care reform, we at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System are adopting new services and strategies to better care for our community through plans for expansion. Transformation by the Numbers: By 2018, CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System will increase its service offerings from an existing 27 to more than 40 locations region-wide. An initial investment of $10 million will launch CHRISTUS' plans to bring new health care locations to many communities including Beaumont, Orange, Bridge City, Port Arthur/Mid County and Silsbee. The approved plan will increase the CHRISTUS Physician Group Primary Care Clinics from an existing 8 to 15 within the next three years, with over 40 primary care providers. A $2.1 million renovation of the NICU will upgrade it to the highest level of care in Southeast Texas. "The most important thing to remember is that our mission has never changed. We are repositioning ourselves so that our mission of extending the healing ministry of Jesus Christ can be available to everyone in the community. These expansion plans ensure our mission and ministry in Southeast Texas can remain strong for the next 100 years." — Paul Trevino, CEO of CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System "We are working hard to reposition our ministry to no longer think of ourselves as a collection of hospitals but as a health care system," says Paul Trevino, CEO of services and strategies to better care for our community through plans for expansion. 2 christussetx.org
