To accommodate heavy patient volumes that will continue to grow, Texas Health Fort Worth needed a larger ED. "The new, 75,000-square-foot ED will be located directly across the street from the current department, and it will be connected to the main hospital building by a sky bridge," says Lillie Biggins, R.N., F.A.C.H.E., senior vice president of Hospital Operations at Texas Health Fort Worth. "The three-story facility will give patients and their families the privacy they deserve and eliminate congestion in treatment areas." Along with the addition of space, Texas Health Southwest has also introduced more advanced technology. The new facility offers stereotactic biopsies, breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound-guided breast biopsies. a LiFEsaving scrEEning The National Cancer Institute recommends women receive mammograms every one to two years beginning at age 40.
